While most students are getting a week-long break from studying, the Weber State University men’s and women’s basketball teams will head to Reno, Nevada, to compete in the 2017 Big Sky Conference Basketball Championships.
This will be the second year the Reno Events Center will host the Big Sky Conference Basketball Championships as a neutral location.
The women’s tournament is set to begin on March 6, while the men’s kicks off on March 7.
Both tournament championship games will take place on March 11. The women’s game will begin at approximately 1:05 p.m. MT, and the men’s game will take place at 6:30 p.m. MT.

The Weber State men’s basketball team earned its 22nd Big Sky Conference regular season title last year and went on to win the Big Sky Conference Championship game 62–59 against the University of Montana.
The men’s basketball team continued on to the first round of the NCAA tournament where they suffered a 71–53 loss to Xavier University.
Unable to secure the regular season championship this year, the men’s basketball team will have to win one of their two games this weekend in order to secure a first-round bye for the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
Last year, the Weber State women’s basketball team entered the tournament as a No. 6 seed. The women defeated Portland State University 91–68.
Weber State went on to the quarterfinals where they suffered a heartbreaking buzzer-beating loss to the University of Idaho.
The women’s team then went on to participate in the Women’s Basketball Invitational for the first time since 1983.
The Wildcats defeated the University of New Mexico, University of North Dakota and USC Upstate to earn themselves a spot in the WBI Championship.
After battling in a double-overtime game, the ’Cats were vanquished 87–85 by the Ragin’ Cajuns of the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
This year, the women are guaranteed to play in the opening round of the Big Sky Tournament, coming in at a seventh, eighth or ninth seed.
This will be the last
Big Sky Conference Tournament for seniors Richaud Gittens, Kyndahl Hill, Jeremy Senglin and Deeshyra Thomas.
