Nothing seemed to slow down senior Carlee Lough on Saturday as each shot she let loose seemed to hit its mark every time.
Lough, a guard for the Weber State University women’s basketball team, scored a career-high 20 points in the Wildcats’ win against Idaho State, earning her the title of Signpost Student-Athlete of the Week.
“I thought honestly that was a battle. I’m so proud of our team in general,” Lough said after the win. “There were times where we could have folded and let them keep coming on their run. We battled back and got stops.”
Just three weeks after setting her previous career-high, Lough went off on the Bengals, shooting 5-10 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc, while also shooting 7-8 from the free-throw line. Lough is the fourth Wildcat to score 20 points in a game this season, joining freshman Kailie Quinn (21), Regina Okoye (21) and Brianna Averette (21).
Lough provided a major spark for the Wildcats’ offense in the win, helping the team remain composed even when the Bengals threatened to take the lead.
“In our huddles we talked about gathering our composure,” Lough said. “Taking a deep breath and just execution.”
In a game that came down to a six-point difference in the end, Lough provided clutch shooting in the second half for her team. Although she shot only 2-4 from the field in the second half, Lough came up big from the free-throw line as she led the team shooting 5-6 in the half.
After going on the road this weekend, Lough and the Wildcats return home for the final time this season as they host Montana State and Montana next week. They will finish their schedule on a three-game road trip to Idaho State and University of Idaho before ending the regular season in Eastern Washington on March 7.
