WSU football running back Bo Bolen is this week’s Signpost Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the team with a season-high 143 rushing yards, becoming the ninth player in team history with 2,000 career-rushing yards in the Wildcats’ 34-21 win against Northern Colorado.

Bolen led the Wildcats’ offense on Saturday against the Bears, rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown on 25 attempts. His 143 yards rushing was the third-highest single game total in his career, and the most in a single game since 2010 when he rushed for 156 yards against Portland State.

In the final home game of his career, Bolen broke the 2,000 career-rushing yard mark with a 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He became the first Wildcat to reach 2,000 career-rushing yards since WSU career-rushing leader Trevyn Smith did it as a sophomore in 2007. Going into the final game of his career, Bolen is six yards away from passing Geoff Mitchell for eighth place on the career-rushing list and 95 yards away from passing Johnnie Gray III for seventh place all time.

“It hit me today that my college career playing at home is done,” Bolen said after the win. “I was a little emotional before the game; I was a little emotional after the game. It’s kind of crazy that it’s over here at Weber State.”

Bolen and the Wildcats will finish the 2014 season on the road this Saturday as they travel to Pocatello, Idaho to face off against the Idaho State Bengals. For Bolen, the game will be bittersweet, as he thinks the team has finally gotten on the winning path.

“It just sucks, because I feel like the team has turned a corner, and I was talking with some of my roommates and I told them the Coach Hill era has begun when they were asking me if (the team) was going to win or lose,” Bolen said. “And what I mean by that is I expect them to be good from here on out. It just sucks that I’m done now, because I promise that Coach Hill is going to win a championship while he’s here.”
