Basketball opens up season with Purple and White game
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will get their seasons started on Oct. 22, when they host the annual Purple and White game. The action will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner and opportunity to meet the student athletes. Then at 7 p.m. the Wildcats will take the floor for a scrimmage.
The men’s team will open their season on the road when they take on in-state rival Utah State in November. The defending Big Sky champions will have their hands full early on in the season as they travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam before hosting Brigham Young University in December.
The team returns with the Big Sky defensive player of the year, Joel Bolomboy, and freshman of the year, Jeremy Senglin, but will look for everyone to contribute. Richaud Gittens, Kyndahl Hill and James Hajek are the other three returning players from last season.
The women’s team will hope to build on the momentum that they created at the end of last season. The Wildcats finished the season winning three of their last seven games and will have three seniors returning. Coach Bethann Ord will be looking for some new faces to contribute after they lost their top two scorers from a year ago.
They will open up their season at home against Montana Western before traveling to take on the Air Force Academy.
Cross country runs well in Wisconsin
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Madison, Wisonsin to take part in one of the biggest meets of the year. The Wisconsin Adidas Invitational featured five of the top 10 teams in the nation in both races.
The men’s team finished 31st and were led by a 52nd place finish by senior Mike Hardy as he covered the 8,000 meter course in 24:22. The women’s team finished in 33rd and were lead by the 78th place finish by Jamie Stokes. She covered the 6,000 meter course in 21:03 and was the only Wildcat in the top 100.
The Wildcats will return to action on Nov. 1 in Grand Forks, North Dakota at the Big Sky Cross Country Championships.
