Over the past several months, The Signpost has continued its tradition of bringing home awards for its excellence. The Signpost and its staff won awards from both the Utah Press Association and Region Nine of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Just as for the last four years, The Signpost once again received the General Excellence award from the UPA after receiving the most awards amongst its peer papers. The paper as a whole also received first place for general news coverage, second place for best community event, best staff-produced ad and best lifestyle page and third place for best special section. The Signpost also received the Utah’s Finest award for the best lead story. The individual recipients of awards are as follows

1st place for best government/political story: Bethany West

1st place for best photo page: Israel Campa

1st place for best news photograph: Nikki Dorber

1st place for best sports photograph: Israel Campa

1st place for best feature photograph: Nikki Dorber

1st place for best infographic: Aubree Eckhardt

1st place for best front page: Aubree Eckhardt

2nd place for best general news story: Jennifer Greenlee

2nd place for best feature story: Francisco Ruiz

2nd place for best education story: Adam Rubin

2nd place for best business story: Adam Rubin

2nd place for best editorial: Kierstynn King

2nd place for best in-house promotion: Aubree Eckhardt

3rd place for best sports page: Aubree Eckhardt

For Region Nine SPJ awards, three photographers received first place for their photography: BriElle Harker, breaking news photography; Nikki Dorber, feature photography and Israel Campa, sports photography. These photographers will move on to the national competition.
