Last week, Gov. Spencer Cox signed legislation that will lift mask mandates in the state of Utah on April 10. There has been anticipation around whether Weber State University will continue to require students and others on campus to wear face coverings.
This question was answered on March 31 when a campus-wide email stated that the WSU campuses will extend the requirement for face coverings until June 25.
The email from Dane LeBlanc, Director of Public Safety said “Keeping mask requirements in place through the first block of summer session allows us to offer more in-person courses and experiences, and aligns with practices happening in K-12 education.”
The email also stated that restrictions and protocols could change as information from the CDC and local health officials is released. WSU is also working closely with Weber-Morgan Health Department to look at the possibility of holding high school graduations on campus this spring as well.
International travel will continue to be suspended through June 25, and all study abroad trips are also suspended in summer 2021.
Event protocols will remain the same, guidelines still including not holding third-party events, no overnight stays, not serving food or drink, no conferencing and all attendees and hosts following COVID guidelines and protocols.
“Recent developments in our fight against COVID-19 are promising. We will revisit our current COVID-19 guidelines at the end of June. In the meantime, I thank you for your continued vigilance and adherence to these guidelines in an effort to keep campus safe for all.” LeBlanc said.
