On Friday, September 11, the tennis team took to the courts for practice. Their goals were ambitious: win the Big Sky regular season title for the third year in a row, win the Big Sky Championship tournament and make it to the NCAA National Championship tournament.
Weber State looks to pick up where they left off with a 20-1 conference record from the past two years led by seniors Jakub Gewert, Todd Fought, Sanjay Goswami and Landon Barlow. Whether or not they can achieve their goals, one thing is for sure–they are working hard.
Goswami said, regarding the 3-4 loss to Sacramento State last year, “We lost to Sac [State] by one match. We thought we were the better team. We’re not going to be short of any of that this coming year.”
Building off of Goswami statement, Barlow told me their depth in the lineup is what makes them really competitive. He also says, “This is the year to win it in the regular season, take it that much further, and win it in the conference tournament.”
Weber State Men’s Tennis opens up their fall schedule with the U of U Invitational September 25, playing Idaho State, Montana State and Lewis College.
